Donations may be in the form of paintings, other 2 dimensional work, sculpture, carving etc, both functional and non-functional in metal, fibre, wood, glass, clay and mixed media. The show will be on exhibit at the gallery for the month of September, during which time auction bids will be received. Work submitted for the jury process will be received August 4-9. A CHORUS LINE is a musical with a book by James Kirkwood, Jr. and Nicholas Dante, Lyrics by Edward Kleban and music by Marvin Hamlisch.Ê The original Broadway production was an unprecedented box office and critical hit, receiving 12 Tony Award nominations and winning nine of them, in addition to the 1976 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.Ê It ran for 6,137 performances, becoming the longest-running production in Broadway history up to that time.Ê With 19 main characters, it is set on the bare stage of a Broadway theatre during an audition for chorus line members of a musical.Ê The show gives a glimpse into the personalities of the performers and the choreographer as they describe the events that have shaped their lives and their decisions to become dancers.Ê Director Zach, tells them he is looking for a strong dancing chorus of four boys and four girls. Celebration Singers Seeking Choral DirectorThe Celebration Singers seek a highly skilled, energetic and inspiring choral director with proven ability to provide artistic leadership. The choral director will lead the choir artistically and work collaboratively with the Board of Directors on the strategic development of the organization. The candidate for this position must have previous experience as a choral director and choral singer and have relevant education (eg. degree in music). Openness to different genres of music is a definite asset. The candidate should have excellent references and reputation in the choral directing community. The George Ryga Centre, BC Bookworld, CBC Radio(Kelowna) and Okanagan College are pleased to announce the preliminary shortlist of ten books Nominated for this year‚s Fifth Annual George Ryga Award: (1) Intent for a Nation - Michael Byers(Douglas & McIntyre) (2) What Belongs - F.B. Andre(Ronsdale Press) (3) Little Emperors - Joann Dionne (Dundurn Press) (4) Falsework - Gary Geddes - (Goose Lane) (5) Of A Fire Beyond The Hills - Ernest Hekkanen (New Orphic Publishing) (6) Radiance - Shaena Lambert (Random House) (7) Web of Deceit - Barry Lando(Anchor Canada) (8) The Orange Trees of Baghdad - Leila Nadir (Key Porter Books) (9) Becoming the Kind Father - Calvin Sandborn (New Society Publishers) (10) Forage - Rita Wong (Nightwood Editions) Regional writers, scholars and activists will collapse this preliminary field of to a final shortlist of three books that will be announced in early July. Tune in to CBC Kelowna to hear „readings‰ from the „three short-listed books‰. This year‚s final Judge will deliberate on the short-listed titles and the winner will be announced in mid July. The physical GEORGE RYGA AWARD ˆ titled “The Censor‚s Golden Rope” is a unique piece of sculpture, recreated annually by Okanagan sculptor Reg Kienast. Last year‚s Ryga Award was presented to THE WOLVES AT EVELYN by Harold Rhenisch. The 2006 Award winner was IN PLAIN SIGHT - Life in the Downtown Vancouver East-side - edited by Leslie Robertson and Dara Culhane. The 2005 award winner was THE GREENPEACE TO AMCHITKA by the late Robert Hunter(with photographs by Robert Keziere). The 2004 Ryga Award was won by the Governor General Award nominated MISSING SARAH by Maggie de Vries.. This year‚s award will be presented on Saturday, July 26 (George Ryga‚s 76th Birthday) at a Gala Evening at the Vernon Powerhouse Theatre. The festivities begin at 8 p.m. Coupled with this year‚s award presentation, hosted by the CBC Daybreak's Marion Barschel, will be a special "IN CONCERT Performance by Comedian - Guitarist Extraordinaire - TODD BUTLER!
