The Okanagan Festival Singers was founded by Leroy Wiens in the spring of 1986 for a performance of Handel's Israel in Egypt. The OFS has developed into one of the foremost choral ensembles in the BC Interior. The dedicated, auditioned choir members attend weekly rehearsals from all over the Okanagan. The repertoire of the OFS has included large classical works, such as: Handel's Messiah, Bach's Mass in B Minor, Hayden's Creation, and many others. The choir has also performed many "a cappella" concerts, featuring Canadian composers and musical works from the 14th to the 21st centuries.
The OFS has produced 3 CDs: "Sacred Classics" - a recording of traditional hymns and sacred music. "An Okanagan Christmas" - recorded from its 2005 Christmas concert. "A World of Christmas" - recorded live with Ed Henderson and the Worldfest Ensemble.
The Okanagan Festival Singers have entertained Kelowna audiences for over two decades. They have travelled to other towns and cities throughout BC and Alberta and have initiated "choir exchanges" with choral groups from these areas. The OFS has hosted choirs from other countries as well, including a women's choir from Japan.
Information about the choir and its performances can be obtained on its website.
