The Okanagan Artistsí League is a group of artists residing in and around the city of Vernon, located in the beautiful Okanagan valley in central British Columbia, Canada. The area is devoted primarily to fruit growing, market gardens, ranching and tourism. Several large lakes, including Kalamalka Lake (which means "lake of many colours" in the Okanagan First Nation language) and the ninety mile long Okanagan Lake, provide marvelous scenery for tourists and artists alike.|
The Artistsí League, which began as the Vernon Art Association, established and ran the Topham-Brown Gallery before it became the Vernon Public Art Gallery. The Artistsí League is one of the oldest art associations in British Columbia and many of its alumni have become well known Canadian artists.
The Okanagan Artists' League (OAL) always welcomes new members. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month at 10:00 a.m. in the Vernon Community Arts Centre at the Polson Park entrance on Highway 6 in Vernon.
The theme of the OAL is "Artists Helping Artists" and to this end we encourage our members to come to the "Drop In and Paint" (all mediums) on Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
To improve your skills, we work with the Vernon Community Art Centre in recommending artist instructors for workshops. In addition, we have a great assortment of reference books and videos in our library. We also provide members with the opportunity to show and sell artwork during our art exhibitions.
Membership fees for the year 2004-05 remain at $30.00 per year. For more information on membership please contact our Membership Chair Louise Young (250) 542-0181. Click here for a copy of the membership application. Send the application together with your cheque payable to the Okanagan Artists' League.
