ORGANIZATION, RECIPIENTS, AND BENEFITS TO THE REGION’S RESIDENTS OF YOUR PROGRAM:
THE ORGANIZATION:
Originally founded in 1953 the Kelowna and District Arts Council soon became recognized as the most culturally active organization in the area.
In 1966 the Canadian Federation of University Women –Kelowna, formally registered the Kelowna and District Arts Council as a non-profit society with a high reaching goal of promoting the arts through education, action and advocacy. Since then, the Arts Council has remained an integral component of our fast growing community.
New Name:
On June 14th 2006 at the Arts Council’s Annual General Meeting, the KADAC membership unanimously voted to change the name of the Kelowna and District Arts Council to the “ARTS COUNCIL OF THE CENTRAL OKANAGAN” (ARTSCO). The Arts Council and its members believe that the new name will better reflect a more inclusive picture of the region it actually serves.
It is the Arts Council’s commitment to staying in tune with its Central Okanagan cultural communities by moving with the times, therefore making the changes that are required to remain an integral part of our region. Supporting: Peachland, Westbank, Westside, Kelowna, Central Okanagan East and Lake Country
The Arts Council’s Board of Directors is made up of key community minded individuals, which include; artists, arts educators and professionals that have the skills, the community support and the know-how, to further foster the development of the Arts Council, ensuring organizational continuity and community leadership.
